The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, met with the President of the United States, Joseph Biden, who came to our country for a visit for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion and said that he would talk to the American leader about the situation at the front and what needs to be done to stop the war, the Office of the President reports.
The President of Ukraine noted that "he will talk with the President of the United States about the situation at the front, as well as about the Ukrainian people, who are going through extremely difficult times today."
"What should we do to stop the war, to be successful in this war, to make Ukraine even stronger, and how to win this year," he said.
For his part, Biden emphasized the importance of his presence in Ukraine today, which demonstrates US support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state.
"I think it would be critically important not to leave any doubt that the US supports Ukraine in its war against brutal aggression," the US leader said.
The head of the Ukrainian state met the distinguished guest on the porch of the Mariinsky Palace in the center of the capital.
After the presentation of the members of the Ukrainian and American delegations, the presidents of Ukraine and the USA had a face-to-face conversation.
Zelenskyi noted that Biden's visit is an extremely important signal of support for Ukraine and Ukrainians. "Thank you very much, Mr. President. This is a significant moment of support for Ukraine," he said.
The head of the Ukrainian state emphasized that Biden personally and the entire American society were with Ukraine from the beginning of the full-scale war unleashed by Russia. "The first phone call with the support of Ukraine was from the White House. Thank you for your leadership. I also thank you for the bipartisan support, for the support from the Congress," Zelenskyi emphasized.
The US president noted that he is glad to visit Kyiv again.
"A lot has changed since the last trip. Terrible things happened, invasions, but at the same time the Ukrainians showed themselves in a way that very few nations have shown themselves in their defense. And they helped us understand the meaning of democracy," said Joseph Biden.
He also conveyed greetings from members of Congress. According to Biden, they were strongly impressed by Volodymyr Zelenskyi's recent speech in Congress.
The US President spoke about the intention to discuss how the United States and allies can most effectively help Ukraine in its struggle for freedom and independence.
