For US President Joe Biden, the visit to Poland, dedicated to the first anniversary of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, is extremely important. This was stated at a briefing by the representative of the US National Security Council in the White House, John Kirby, which was broadcast by the Voice of America.
The American leader together with Polish President Duda will talk about the importance of NATO unity and continued support for Ukraine.
According to Kirby, Biden "wants to emphasize the importance of the bold unity of Poland and other NATO countries" for Ukraine throughout the world.
"The president is very much looking forward to this visit. It is very sad that the war in Ukraine has been going on for (almost - ed.) a year. Poland has been and is a strong ally, provides huge support to Ukraine. And it hosts not only American troops, but also millions of Ukrainian refugees , who fled there for safety. And we really appreciate this support. President Biden wants to personally thank President Duda, he wants to personally thank the Polish people," Kirby said.
The White House reported that President Biden will also deliver a speech on the eve of February 24, and it will be a "strong message" "not only from the United States, but also from the international community" about supporting Ukraine in "the coming weeks and months, which will be difficult and critical".
Biden last visited Poland in April 2022, passing near the border with Ukraine to meet with American and Polish troops. He also met with refugees who left Ukraine after the invasion.
