There is already a third unidentified object over North America, this time over the American state of Michigan.
This is reported by Axios.
The Pentagon reported that the object was shot down over Lake Huron by an F-16 launch, following President Joe Biden's decision. The unknown device was moving at an altitude of about six thousand meters.
This is the fourth suspicious object detected over the US territory since January, and the third downed in recent days - not counting the balloon, which the US considers to be a Chinese spy apparatus.
General Glen Van Herck, head of NORAD and the US Northern Command, told reporters that the Pentagon is still investigating what exactly the objects were and who they may have belonged to.
On Sunday, Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand announced that a high-altitude object had been detected in U.S. airspace over Lake Huron, and that NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) had deployed Canadian and U.S. aircraft to investigate what can it bе.
NORAD noted that they discovered the object on Sunday morning and began tracking it. "Based on the route and available data, there are reasonable grounds to associate this object with a radar signal recorded over Montana, not far from the facilities of the Ministry of Defense," the communique said. In addition, the object could pose a threat to civil aviation. "The location chosen for the downing gave us an opportunity to avoid the consequences for people below, and to improve the chances of receiving debris," the command added.
Earlier on Saturday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that NORAD forces shot down an unknown object over the northern province of Yukon, and Canadian experts are investigating its wreckage.
On Friday, such an object was shot down over Alaska.
The White House noted that the downed objects were most likely balloons. "They are not very similar to that balloon (which the US shot down first and consider to be a spy apparatus of China - EP) and much smaller, so we will not give them a specific description until we receive the debris," commented a representative of the National Security Council.
