Politico: Putin's ex-wife urgently sells villas and mansions in Europe

Putin's ex-wife urgently sells villas and mansions in Europe.

First of all, we are talking about an elite apartment in a resort town in Spain.

Fearing international sanctions after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the ex-wife of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Lyudmila Ocheretna, began selling luxury real estate in the West. This is stated in an investigative article conducted by journalists of the American publication Politico.

Putin officially divorced his wife Lyudmila in 2013. A few years later, she married athlete (Ironman triathlon amateur) and businessman Artur Ocheretny.

“The pair is not on the European Union's sanctions list, but that could change quickly; because London has already sanctioned Ocheretna and her adult children (from her marriage to Putin). If Brussels were to follow suit, it could suddenly leave real estate and the rest of their European portfolio out of reach," the journalists write.

First of all, we are talking about an elite apartment located 20 minutes' walk from the beach in Marbella, a resort town in Spain. At the time of purchase in 2014, it cost approximately 1.1 million euros. And since then, real estate prices have only increased.

According to journalists, Putin and Ocheretnaya have a lot of common real estate left.

"The marriage may have ended, but aspects of the relationship - particularly the financial component - continued," say investigators.

True, formally, Ocheretny bought the real estate. The apartment in Marbella is one of two in the city that he bought shortly before his wedding to Ludmila. Ocheretny bought the first in 2011 for about 800,000 euros, and the second in 2014 for more than 1 million euros. The registration documents show that the apartments still remain his property.

In recent decades, this area has become a magnet for Russian money. About 3,000 Russians officially live in Marbella, the real number is much higher," a local realtor told reporters.

But that's not all. In 2015, around the same time when Ocheretny married Lyudmila, he bought a luxurious apartment in Davos (Switzerland). Its declared value at the time of purchase was about 3 million euros. Moreover, Ocheretny was able to buy an apartment in Switzerland, despite the fact that Swiss laws allow foreigners to buy housing only in certain cases.

In addition, Ocheretny several years ago bought an Art Deco villa called "Villa Susanna", located about 6 kilometers from the resort town of Biarritz in France.

"Villa Susanna" is not the only real estate in the city associated with the Russian president. In 2012, Kyrylo Shamalov, then the husband of Kateryna Tikhonova, the youngest daughter of Putin and Ocheretna, bought a house with a sea view for 3.5 million euros," the investigators noted.

Last year, the British authorities expanded the sanctions list against the entourage of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Then it included the former gymnast Alina Kabaeva, whom the media call Putin's mistress, as well as his ex-wife Ludmila (now she has the surname Ocheretna). In total, a dozen people were added to the sanctions list, among them relatives of the dictator Putin or people whom the British authorities consider by those who are part of his "close circle".

Later, the US imposed sanctions against the musician Sergei Roldugin, whom the media call Putin's closest friend and the godfather of one of his daughters. His wife, opera singer Olena Mirtova, was also sanctioned by the US.

Now Roldugin is on the sanctions lists of the United States, the European Union, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
