The Prime Minister of Moldova, Natalia Havrylytsia, resigned.
She announced this at a briefing on Friday, NewsMaker reports.
"After a year and a half in office, it's time to announce my resignation," Havrylytsia said.
"If the government had as much support at home in Moldova as it does in the EU, in Brussels, we would have achieved much more," she added.
According to her, Moldova is entering a new phase, the basis of which is security.
"During these 18 months in office, we have managed in continuous crises. The Republic of Moldova is entering a new stage in which security is a priority," Havrylica also noted.
At the press conference, she talked about the refugee crisis, which the government managed to deal with, the start of construction of new transmission lines, attracting new investments to Moldova, putting roads and bridges into operation, and other reforms.
And most importantly, according to Havrylitsa, Moldova acquired the status of a candidate country for joining the EU.
On Friday morning, several journalists wrote with reference to sources that the resignation of the government of Havrylitsa is approaching.
The Cabinet of Ministers headed by Havrylitsa was sworn in on August 6, 2021.
We will remind you that Moldova, following Ukraine, submitted an application to join the EU last year.
In June 2022, the European Commission recommended that Moldova be granted candidate status, provided certain steps are taken. In particular, Moldova should complete the main steps of the recently launched comprehensive reform of the justice system, eliminate the shortcomings identified by the OSCE and the Venice Commission in the field of justice.
