A new powerful earthquake occurred in Turkey

A new powerful earthquake occurred in the south of Turkey, reports the Agency for Prevention and Elimination of Consequences of Emergency Situations (AFAD) of Turkey.

 

 "An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 occurred at 1:24 p.m. in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmarash province," the report said.

 

 The department promised to inform about the development of events.

 

 A 7.4-magnitude earthquake occurred on February 6 at 4:17 a.m. local time in the Pazardzhik district of Kahramanmaras province in Turkey.

 

 After the earthquake, there were 42 aftershocks, the largest of which had a magnitude of 6.6. The earthquake was intensely felt in the surrounding provinces. It also affected Syria's neighboring Turkey.

 

 A powerful earthquake in Turkey and Syria has already killed more than 1,200 people.

 

 Turkey sits on top of major fault lines and is prone to earthquakes. About 18,000 people died in the massive earthquakes that struck northwestern Turkey in 1999.
