The body of the imprisoned third president Mykhailo Saakashvili is one step away from "multi-organ failure" and measures should be taken urgently, endocrinologist Lali Javashvili said at the meeting of the Tbilisi City Court, "Noviny Georgia" reports.
The doctor participated in the independent examination of the "Empathy" center and was a co-author of the final conclusion, which refers to Saakashvili's serious condition.
Multiple organ failure - simultaneous or sequential damage to several body systems.
"Multiple organ failure is an emergency condition, when the failure of one organ is followed by a cascade, and this can lead to death," the doctor warned.
Conclusions from the endocrinologist's point of view:
Saakashvili's condition is assessed as serious;
A severe degree of cachexia was confirmed - dangerously rapid weight loss. Since his arrest, Saakashvili has lost 33.3% of his weight;
The development of cachexia was facilitated by "clinical malabsorption" - a disorder of the processes of digestion, transport and absorption of nutrients in the small intestine.
Saakashvili was wrongly brought out of hunger strike;
Many medical appointments raise questions - Saakashvili was simultaneously prescribed several drugs with the same pharmacological formula;
Treatment is symptomatic all the time, the diseases themselves are not treated.
Saakashvili, who lived and worked in Ukraine after the end of his presidential term in Georgia, secretly returned to Georgia shortly before the first round of municipal elections in the fall of 2021, after which he was detained and imprisoned.
The politician's health deteriorated significantly after two hunger strikes. Saakashvili has been under guard at the Vivamed Tbilisi clinic since May.
Recently, heavy metal poisoning was discovered in Saakashvili. The former president of Georgia expressed distrust of the country's forensic medical examination bureau, and his lawyer proposed to bring experts from reputable expert bureaus from Europe or America and conduct studies on poisoning abroad.
