The United States has imposed sanctions on Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and five members of its board for suppressing protests in Iran.
This was reported by the press service of the US Treasury Department.
The deputy minister of intelligence and security and four senior commanders of the IRGC in Iran were also included in the sanctions list.
"Today's actions, taken in coordination with Great Britain and the EU, are directed against the key economic pillar of the IRGC, which finances most of the regime's brutal repression; as well as against high-ranking security officials who coordinate Tehran's repression at the national and provincial levels," the statement said.
We will remind, earlier in Iran, two people were executed, convicted for allegedly killing a volunteer of paramilitary formations during protests.
Earlier, a court in Tehran sentenced to death one of the participants of the protests that began in the country after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. This was the first such sentence handed down to the participants of the demonstrations.
