British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed during a telephone conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyі that his country will provide Ukraine with Challenger 2 tanks. The British Prime Minister's office reported this.
The leaders discussed the current state of Russia's war in Ukraine, where successive Ukrainian victories are pushing back Russian forces and complicating their military and morale challenges. They agreed on the need to use this moment to accelerate global military and diplomatic support for Ukraine.
The Prime Minister outlined Britain's ambitions to strengthen our support for Ukraine, including through the provision of Challenger 2 tanks and additional artillery systems," the statement said.
According to the message, Sunak and Zelenskyі welcomed other international commitments in this vein, including Poland's offer to provide Ukraine with a company of Leopard tanks.
"The Prime Minister emphasized that he and the entire British government will work intensively with international partners to quickly provide the kind of support that will allow Ukraine to use its advantage, win this war and ensure a lasting peace," the message reads.
President Zelenskyі did not mention the Challenger 2 tanks at the end of the conversation, but noted that he thanks Sunak for the decisions that will strengthen the Armed Forces on the battlefield.
In his social networks, the president noted that the always strong support from the UK has now become impenetrable and ready for challenges.
"In a conversation with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, I thanked him for the decisions that will not only strengthen us on the battlefield, but will also be the right signal for other partners," Zelenskyі added without further details.
