Russia accused Armenia of disrupting peace talks with Azerbaijan

Russia accused its ally Armenia of disrupting peace talks with Azerbaijan.

This follows from the comment of the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, published on Thursday on the website of the Russian ministry.

According to Zakharova, Armenia's decision to cancel the meeting in Moscow, scheduled for December last year, hindered the negotiations on the peace agreement.

"The Armenian leadership itself canceled the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Mirzoyan at the last moment. This prevented the discussion not only of the peace treaty, but also of other urgent issues of Armenian-Azerbaijani normalization, including the situation around the Lachin Corridor," Zakharova said.

She said that "if the Armenian partners are really interested in solving the mentioned problems in the direction of comprehensive implementation of tripartite agreements at the highest level, then instead of engaging in scholasticism, it is necessary to continue joint work."

"The Russian offer to provide a platform for Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty negotiations remains valid," added Zakharova.

This statement once again shows that relations between Moscow and Yerevan have become strained in the midst of Russia's war with Ukraine. Recently, Armenia has repeatedly emphasized that it does not feel adequate support from the Russian Federation in the conflict with Azerbaijan.

In December, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Virmen Hryhoryan criticized the Russian Federation for forcing Azerbaijan to make concessions and join the "Union State".
