The IAEA will deploy its own observer missions to all Ukrainian nuclear power plants, including the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This was stated in at. Oleg Korikov, head of the State Inspection of Nuclear Regulation, on the air of Ukraine Media Center.
As Korikov noted, the World Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) accepted Ukraine's proposal to deploy international monitoring missions at all the country's nuclear power plants. At the same time, these missions will start working in the near future.
The head of the State Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority spoke about the situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP temporarily occupied by the Russians, and emphasized that all attempts by the occupiers to connect the plant to the Russian energy system failed. However, at the same time, the occupation of the NPP is a high nuclear danger.
"For example, the occupiers organized a base near the station to repair their equipment. All this is done right in front of the experts of the IAEA mission, who record these actions, but cannot prevent them in any way," said Korikov.
Therefore, according to the head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Ukraine offered to warn of the nuclear threat from the Russian occupiers and to establish IAEA monitoring missions at all other Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
"This is necessary to strengthen nuclear safety in wartime conditions. The IAEA agreed with our proposal, and in the near future these missions will be deployed at all nuclear power plants, including Chernobyl," he said.
The mission will monitor the security regime in the conditions of war and attacks on the energy system of Ukraine, which directly affect the operation of the NPP.
