MEP: Saakashvili's case and Georgia's accession to the EU are inseparable

Member of the European Parliament Jacek Sariush-Volskyi said that Georgia's accession to the European Union is directly related to the case of ex-president Mykhailo Saakashvili.

This is reported by "Georgia Online".

Thus, a member of the group of European conservatives and reformers commented on the words of the leaders of the "Georgian Dream" about the inappropriateness of drawing parallels between Saakashvili and the European perspective of the country.

"The parallels between Saakashvili's case and Georgia's accession to the European Union are of fundamental importance. They are inseparable. The European Parliament will never support Georgia's accession to the European Union if the detained ex-president dies in prison," said Jacek Sariush-Volskyi.

It will be recalled that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyі called on the Georgian authorities to transfer the former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili for treatment abroad.

After that, the head of "Georgian Dream" stated that Saakashvili's visit to his homeland was a "special operation" by Ukraine to involve Tbilisi in the war. To this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine replied that Kyiv has never interfered and does not plan to interfere in the internal affairs of Georgia", and expressed disappointment that "the Georgian authorities are speculating on the topic of war in Ukraine in order to achieve their narrow domestic political goals".
