Russia can stop gas transit at any moment. Ukraine is ready for this and is counting on stable gas imports from the EU to avoid a crisis scenario. Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko told about this in an interview with Forbes.

"We have long assumed that Russia can stop the transit at any moment. These risks are calculated. This is another reason why we need imports during the heating season. In the event of a transit stop, we will need a certain amount of gas in the pipe so that there is sufficient pressure. This is a small amount, but it should be there," Galushchenko said.

According to him, the Russians recently increased the volume of transit from 40 to 60 million cubic meters per day.

"Interesting behavior. On the night of February 24, the first day of the invasion, they doubled transit to almost the maximum level stipulated in the contract. Then their logic was obvious: "Europeans, don't climb. Here's your gas, and we'll figure it out here ourselves." We will see what Russia's next actions will be in the near future," Galushchenko emphasized.
