The head of the special service of Moldova: there is a "very high" risk of a Russian invasion in 2023

The head of the Information and Security Service of Moldova, Oleksandr Mustyatse, believes that the risk of Russia's invasion of Moldovan territory remains and may materialize as early as 2023, but this will depend on the course of hostilities in Ukraine. He said this in an interview with TVR Moldova.

"The question is not whether the Russian Federation will carry out a new offensive in the direction of Moldovan territory, but when it will happen: whether at the beginning of the year, in January, February, or later, in March, April," said the head of the Moldovan special service .

"But judging by the information we have, Russia can go further to create a corridor with the Transnistrian region, which is the territory of Moldova. Then we can clearly say that yes, they intend to reach here, to connect. intentions regarding Chisinau we can discuss, but this is a real and very high risk," he added.

Mustyatce reminded that the Transnistrian region is home to Europe's largest ammunition depot guarded by the Russians, and a hypothetical invasion of the Russian Federation into Moldova may be connected with the use of these ammunitions in a possible military confrontation.

Later, the Security and Information Service of Moldova published a comment clarifying the words of its leader.

"The director of the SIB noted that the goal of the Russian Federation to create a land corridor to the Transnistrian region remains relevant even today, and a new offensive of the Russian Federation in this direction may take place as early as 2023. Implementation also depends on the development of events in the war in Ukraine," it says. in the comment.
