The Hungarian government will not support the gas price ceiling in any case and considers this step wrong. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijarto.
"The introduction of a gas price ceiling will not force Hungary to agree with the EU on changes in long-term contracts with Russia," Sijarto said.
According to him, the decision on the ceiling of gas prices in the EU has not yet been adopted, at the morning meeting the proposed level was not supported by ministers from nine countries. He also noted that the voting on the gas price ceiling at the meeting of EU energy ministers in Brussels will continue, the participants want to reach a consensus.
"We, Germany and 7 other EU countries have spoken out against the gas price ceiling, but so far we have not been able to form the necessary minority to block it," added the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
