The United States submitted a draft resolution to the Congress, proposing to expel Russia from the UN Security Council due to the fact that it violates the basic principles of the organization.
This was announced by the co-author of the resolution, Republican Steve Cohen.
"Russia has repeatedly, knowingly and brazenly violated the UN Charter. That's why today Joe Wilson and I introduced a bipartisan resolution calling for the removal of Russia from the UN Security Council," Cohen said on Twitter.
Congressmen propose to recognize that Russia violates the fundamental principles of the UN by its behavior, citing as examples the intention of the Russian Federation to destroy Ukraine as a state, the crimes of the Russian military in Buch, the illegal annexation of the occupied territories of Ukraine, nuclear threats, the creation of threats to food security, and at the same time Moscow's attempts to blame humanitarian problems due to the war in Ukraine itself.
The resolution calls on President Joe Biden to order the State Department and other federal agencies to discuss with allies the possibility of "restricting, suspending or revoking the rights and privileges that Russia has in the UN Security Council."
We will remind you that at the beginning of December, Ukraine for the first time officially violated the legitimacy of Russia's presence in the UN: the Verkhovna Rada supported the statement on the illegitimacy of the Russian Federation's presence in the United Nations and called for its reform.
