The Parliament of Romania approved a bill on the regulation of tips, which provides for their taxation and inclusion in the check when ordering in restaurants.
According to the bill, which was supported by 189 Romanian MPs, tips are defined as "any amount of money voluntarily offered by the consumer in addition to the remuneration for goods or services" provided in bars and restaurants.
Clients of establishments can themselves set the tip level within the range of up to 15% of the value of the check. They are taken out as a separate item during payment (an exception is possible if the food is delivered to the home) and will be subject to separate taxation.
