Trump may announce the start of the election campaign after the US midterm elections

Former US President Donald Trump is considering announcing his 2024 presidential bid later this month.

Three of Trump's advisers said this on Thursday, Reuters reported.

Trump himself also hinted at a higher probability of his candidacy during a rally in Iowa.

"And now, to make our country successful and safe and glorious, I'm very, very, very likely to do it again. Get ready, that's all I'm telling you, very soon. Get ready," the former president said during a rally in thursday evening

According to his advisers, Trump quickly called his confidants to discuss possible scenarios with them as he hopes to capitalize on an expected Republican victory in the Nov. 8 midterm elections.

"I think he wants to run, and the Thanksgiving announcement gives him a big advantage over his opponents, and he understands that," said one senior Trump adviser, speaking on condition of anonymity.

An announcement in the coming weeks could put Trump's potential rivals in the Republican nomination at a standstill, advisers said, although they added that it's possible the former president could still delay or change his mind.

One source familiar with Trump's plans said he intends to announce his campaign shortly after Tuesday's election and is canvassing potential staffers.

Polls suggest Republicans are likely to win a majority in the US House of Representatives and have a chance to take control of the Senate, giving them the right to block President Joe Biden's legislative agenda for the next two years.

In July, Trump confirmed that he wanted to become the president of the United States again, but at the time he did not know exactly when he would announce the start of the campaign.
