The ex-president of Georgia, Mykhailo Saakashvili, who has been in the Vivamed Tbilisi clinic since May, could have contracted the coronavirus. This was reported by the politician's lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze.

According to the lawyer, prisoner Saakashvili has a high temperature. In addition, he communicated with a person who was later diagnosed with COVID-19.

"He is currently in isolation. On Thursday or Friday, he will be tested again for the coronavirus. The first test was negative. However, the incubation period has passed. He has a fever and weakness. He mostly lies down," Khachapuridze said.

Due to his health, Saakashvili could not attend the trial in the case of illegal crossing of the border today. The process was once again postponed.

Mykhailo Saakashvili, who lived and worked in Ukraine after completing his presidential term, secretly returned to Georgia shortly before the first round of municipal elections in the fall of 2021, after which he was detained and imprisoned. The politician's health deteriorated significantly after two hunger strikes. Saakashvili has been under guard at the Vivamed Tbilisi clinic since May.
