The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the statement of Republican congressman Paul Gosar, who questioned the expediency of supporting Ukraine and compared Ukrainians to "cannon fodder," unacceptable. This was stated by the spokesman of the Ukrainian Ministry Oleg Nikolenko.
"The comparison of Ukrainians with "cannon fodder" by a member of the US Congress, Paul Gosar, is absolutely unacceptable. The US is well aware of the values for which the Ukrainian people are fighting - freedom, democratic development, the rule of law and respect for human rights. To question the support of Ukraine - giving Putin the green light to continue killing Ukrainians and destroying democracy," Nikolenko noted.
He emphasized that the approaching elections should not turn politicians into populists detached from reality.
"The elections are taking place, and the international authority, undermined by manipulative declarations of Russia's war against Ukraine, remains. We are convinced that the statements of individual congressmen will not affect the continuation of bipartisan support of Ukraine by the United States," Nikolenko added.
We will remind, the other day Paul Gosar, who is one of the most loyal supporters of ex-president Donald Trump in Congress, invited the presidents of Ukraine and Russia to the state of Arizona, which he represents, for "peace talks".
The congressman said that "the world has seen enough death and destruction between Russia and Ukraine, but Western countries seem indifferent to using Ukrainians as cannon fodder and are not interested in de-escalation."
Gosar is one of the Republican congressmen who voted against the allocation of multibillion-dollar economic and military aid to Ukraine. According to him, the US aid is provided to finance a "conflict" in which the US "should not participate".
