Paul Pelosi, the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was attacked while at his home in San Francisco and later hospitalized, Pelosi's office said in a statement.
"This morning, a criminal broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and brutally assaulted Paul Pelosi," the statement said.
It is noted that the attacker has been detained, the investigation is ongoing.
"Pilos was taken to the hospital and is receiving excellent medical care. He is expected to make a full recovery soon," the statement said.
At the same time, Nancy Pelosi was not in San Francisco at the time of the attack.
