The Commander of the Armed Forces of Lithuania Valdemaras Rupshis said that at the next meeting of the State Defense Council of the country, he will propose not to transfer PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers and NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine, reports LRT.
"I have to have the tools. We can't do the job without the appropriate capabilities, but the capabilities we have are at the point where we can no longer give," Rupshis told reporters at the Pabrada training ground on Wednesday.
"I will make such a proposal. We have to look for other means of support," he added.
According to the general, Lithuania could support Kyiv with weapons if it quickly purchased new weapons instead of the ones currently in use.
"We must understand that we also have obligations to NATO. We have clearly stated what units we provide to NATO. These must be units capable of conducting untargeted fire or field artillery, maneuverable units with firepower, as well as air defense equipment to provide support as a host country," Rupshis said.
