House of Commons leader Penny Mordont has withdeawn her candidacy for prime minister, making her rival Rishi Sunak automatically the new leader of the Conservative Party and thus Britain's prime minister, Britain's Conservative Party leadership said on Monday.

 "Rishi Sunak has been elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party," said Sir Graham Brady, head of the House of Commons "1922 Committee", which was involved in the process of selecting a new leader.

 Mordont, for her part, announced on Twitter that she withdrew her candidacy for the prime minister's election and said that in this way "we elected our new prime minister", noting that she fully supports Sunak.
