The former head of the Foreign Ministry won the first round of the presidential elections in Slovenia, the second - in three weeks

According to the results of the first round of the presidential elections in Slovenia, the candidate from the conservatives, former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ange Logar, received the most votes.

This is evidenced by the counting data of 99.99% of the votes of the central election commission of Slovenia.

Logar, a former foreign minister of Slovenia, won 33.96%. His main opponent, lawyer Natasha Pirz Musar, won 26.86% of the vote.

The turnout at the elections was slightly more than 51%.

Neither candidate was expected to win the 50% of the vote needed to win the largely ceremonial post outright.

Conservatives saw the vote as a chance to regain some support after losing the parliamentary election in April.

"The results confirmed that our slogan - 'We work together for the future' - is welcomed by citizens," Logar said in his first reaction to the partial results.

The second round of voting is scheduled for November 13.
