Ex-head of the National Bank of Ukraine Shevchenko claims political pressure and denies the accusations of the National Bank of Ukraine and SAP

The former head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Kyrylo Shevchenko, said about two years of political pressure on him, which caused his health to deteriorate and his resignation.

"When I announced my decision to resign, I (...) decided to name only one of the reasons for my resignation - the deterioration of my health. I did not talk about the almost two years of political pressure that intensified before my decision and, in fact, , led to the worsening of health problems. I was not a comfortable head of the NBU," he wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

He added that the notification of the suspicion of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) came as a surprise to him and stated that the revealed facts are the result of premature conclusions made on the basis of hasty and unsubstantiated judgments.

"I am ready to be responsible for every signature. Since every agreement signed by Ukrgasbank during my leadership was 100% market-based," he wrote.

He noted that all financial operations of the bank were confirmed for the province and diagnostic examinations of PwC.

"I consider it a sign of political persecution and settlement of accounts that the resuscitation of a criminal case, which is already 3.5 years old, and has not been investigated all this time," he emphasized.

At the same time, the press service of Ukrgasbank denied the information that is being circulated in some media about the alleged report of the same suspicion of the current chairman of the board of the bank Andriy Kravets.

"The acting chairman of the board of Ukrgasbank, Andriy Mykolayovych Kravets, did not receive any reports of suspicion and was not a participant in the events described in the NABU and SAP press releases," the financial institution emphasized.

In addition, the bank noted that it carried out inspections, involving internationally recognized auditing companies, and did not find violations of which NABU and the SAPS accuse it.
