The United States will provide Ukraine with $55 million to prepare for winter: what will the funds be used for

The head of the Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Paver arrived in Kyiv for a visit. Today, October 6, she will announce the provision of $55 million in aid to Ukraine to prepare for winter.

 This was reported by the USAID press service.

 What will the funds be used for?

 US financial assistance will be directed to repairs and maintenance of pipes and equipment that supply gas to:

 settlement of Ukrainians;

 medical institutions;

 educational institutions;

 enterprises.

 At the same time, assistance from USAID will include:

 electric generators;

 alternative sources of fuel for hospitals, shelters for internally displaced persons and shelters for socially vulnerable citizens;

 During the provision of aid, first of all, attention will be paid to those regions most affected by a full-scale Russian invasion, namely:

 Zhytomyr region;

 Zaporizhzhya region;

 Kyiv region;

 Mykolayiv region;

 Odesa region;

 Kharkiv region;

 Chernihiv region.

 "Energy Security" project

 The project program is designed for five years. Its main goal is to help Ukraine create a safe and transparent energy sector that ensures reliable and affordable energy supply. It will also help reduce dependence on Russian gas and electricity.

 "In response to the brutal war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the U.S. government provided the government of Ukraine with $8.5 billion in direct budget support that will help continue to fund critical government services, namely: paying salaries to State Security Service employees, providing pensions payments and to maintain hospitals. Also, since February 2022, the US government has provided humanitarian aid worth $1.5 billion to millions of Ukrainians who are both in Ukraine and in neighboring countries," the USAID press service adds.

 Other USAID support

 During the war, USAID also provides support to Ukraine's agro-industrial complex, so that producers can continue to grow and supply products to domestic and global markets.

 The agency also promotes efforts to document Russian war crimes, helps meet critical health care needs, and supports local authorities and self-governments in 91 Ukrainian communities in overcoming the challenges posed by the Russian invasion.
