The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has launched negotiations on the creation of a nuclear safety zone at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, said.
"The meeting of the IEA with the US Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control, Bonnie Jenkins, has begun. The focus is on the urgent creation of a nuclear safety and protection zone at the Zaporizhzhya NPP. The work to ensure the safety of Ukraine's nuclear facilities remains a priority, and the support of the US is highly valued," - he wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, the IAEA published a report on the results of the mission at the ZNPP. It discussed, in particular, the need to "urgently take interim measures to avoid a nuclear incident that may occur due to hostilities... The issue can be resolved by immediately creating a safety zone," the authors of the report noted.
The IAEA has expressed readiness to immediately start consultations on the urgent creation of such a safety zone.
