Christian Lindner, Germany's finance minister and leader of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), which is part of the coalition, does not see a change in the federal government's course on supplying Ukraine with main battle tanks. This was reported by Handelsblatt.
Asked about Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock's statements, Lindner said he had formally asked whether the attitude of individual departments had changed.
"This cannot be confirmed," said the Minister of Finance.
According to him, an agreement was reached at the Allied meetings in Ramstein to rely on a circular exchange "and battle tanks of Western manufacture and design will not be supplied."
The Presidium of the VDP still believes that Germany should check every day whether more can be done to support Ukraine, Lindner said.
It will be recalled that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz explained that his country is already helping Ukraine sufficiently with weapons, and the decision to hand over tanks will be made only in coordination with allies.
