The head of the delegation for relations with the South Caucasus in the European Parliament, Marina Kaljurand, made a statement in connection with Azerbaijan's military aggression against Armenia.
"I strongly condemn the large-scale military attack initiated by Azerbaijan last night from many facilities on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Intense shelling and UAV strikes directed at the Syunik, Vayotsdzor and Gegharkunik regions of Armenia and resulting in an unknown number of victims were recorded.
This new aggression is a continuation of Baku's serious violations of the ceasefire on the Nagorno-Karabakh contact line in March and August. Baku took advantage of the global and regional situation created by Russia's attack on Ukraine.
I appeal to the international community and, in particular, to the European Union, to give a clear answer to the use of this unacceptable force. Now is not the time for toothless statements calling for restraint on both sides. Two weeks ago, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed in Brussels to start work on a peace agreement within a month. I call on Baku not to miss this historic opportunity and immediately return to the negotiating table," Kaljurand said.
