Armenia says that it agreed with the Russian Federation to "stabilize" the situation in Karabakh

Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan spoke by phone with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu after renewed shelling in Nagorno-Karabakh.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia.

The agency said that Papikyan presented Shoigu with the situation that arose as a result of "large-scale Azerbaijani aggression on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia."

"Suren Papikyan and Serhiy Shoigu reached an agreement to take the necessary steps to stabilize the situation," the ministry said in a statement.

Azerbaijan and Armenia blamed each other for the outbreak of tension that occurred overnight. It is the latest escalation after decades of hostility between the countries over Nagorno-Karabakh.

After a new escalation, Yerevan decided to appeal to Russia, the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the UN with a demand to take measures.

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, said that based on Armenia's appeal, a meeting of the CSTO Permanent Council regarding the situation is taking place.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said on Tuesday that it is monitoring the latest developments on the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia, where the sides accuse each other of cross-border shelling.
