Former Prime Minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi said that he would like to act as a mediator in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia together with Angela Merkel. Corriere Della Sera writes about it.
"With Merkel, I would like to try to persuade and mediate to end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia," Berlusconi said.
"At the moment, I don't see any economic losses for Putin. I think he is quite capable of resisting the sanctions and the gas price ceiling," he added.
The Office of the President of Ukraine has already reacted to Berlusconi's words, stating that the former leaders of Italy and Germany have the authority for such negotiations.
"The strange proposals of certain figures to become mediators between Ukraine and Russia should be considered as an attempt to use the topic of Ukraine to resuscitate the name in their countries. Any mediator must have trust, authority, relevance. Neither Berlusconi nor Merkel definitely have this," - Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the OP chairman, wrote on Twitter.
