The self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Oleksandr Lukashenko, intends to revoke the citizenship of Belarusians who have left the country. It is about those who "acted to the detriment of the state". This is reported by Belta.
He made this statement during a meeting on changes to the law on citizenship.
"Within the framework of the prepared draft law, it is necessary to look again at those who have gone abroad, whether they act to the detriment of the state and the people by committing crimes. Are these people worthy to remain citizens of Belarus if they fled from their native country and actually severed ties with it ?" Lukashenko said.
He also stated that it is necessary to discuss the requirements for persons who received a Pole's card or other documents abroad, absurdly speaking of "a different orientation".
"We need to figure out: either they are citizens of Belarus, or they simply got lost, just took this card allegedly by accident, or they have a different "orientation". I think that the internal affairs and diplomatic services have other issues in the field of citizenship that cause concern." Lukashenko added.
