Sweden will buy 40,000 tons of Ukrainian grain for poor countries

Sweden will buy 40,000 tons of Ukrainian grain for starving countries. The authorities will also pay for the delivery of wheat from Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden.

"The operation is aimed at supporting the country's economy and, therefore, its independence, as well as at supporting the implementation of the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports. Sweden is financing the costs of purchasing and transporting at least 40,000 tons of wheat by sea from Ukraine," says the messages

Development Cooperation Minister Matilda Ernkrans said Sweden wanted to help alleviate the already enormous human suffering that Russian aggression has exacerbated for millions of people suffering from hunger in other parts of the world.

"This will reduce the acute risk of starvation. It also strengthens Ukraine's economy and the country's independence," she emphasized.

Before the Russian invasion, Ukraine was a major grain exporter. Millions of tons of grain are stuck in Ukraine as a result of the Russian invasion, which has serious consequences for the economy of Ukraine and for the acute hunger crisis around the world. 50 million people in 45 countries are now on the verge of starvation.

We will remind, earlier Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka announced that Ukraine called on international partners to extend the agreement on the "grain corridor" to other goods, in particular metal.
