The heads of the defense ministries of the EU countries supported the start of preparations for the creation of a military training mission for the Ukrainian military. This is stated in the statement of the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
"There are a lot of (Ukrainian military) training initiatives going on right now, but the needs are huge. And we need to ensure that these efforts are aligned. I can say that all member states are clearly on board with that and to begin the work needed to defining the parameters of the EU mission to provide military aid to Ukraine," Borrell said following the results of today's meeting of the heads of defense ministries of the EU countries in Prague.
He emphasized that the decision to create a training mission was not made today, as it was an informal meeting. According to him, it is about the beginning of preparatory work, which includes contacts with Ukrainians and determination of legal and operational parameters.
"It is quite obvious that we have to be fast and ambitious in order to demonstrate added value and flexibility based on the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Therefore, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine (Olexii Reznikov) presented us with a list of training activities at different levels, in different time perspectives - short-term, mid-term and long-term that they need," Borrell added.
