The ECtHR will resume consideration of complaints against Ukraine, which was stopped due to the invasion of the Russian Federation

The European Court of Human Rights decided to review the measures taken in early March in connection with the aggression of the Russian Federation in cases involving Ukraine, and from September 1 to return in certain aspects to the normal procedure for working with such cases. This was announced by ECHR judge Mykola Hnatovskyi.

Hnatovsky noted that the original correspondence with the applicants will be resumed as soon as possible, and general information for all applicants will be available on the court's website.

Consideration of cases will resume and new time frames will be established for pending cases, taking into account the actual opportunities of the parties to answer the questions.

Notification and publication of decisions will be gradually resumed.

As a reminder, on March 2, due to the Russian invasion, the ECtHR, as an exceptional step, announced the suspension of all processes and communications that require a response or action from the Ukrainian government.

This unprecedented decision, the procedure of which had not been provided before, was adopted at the request of the Ukrainian government.

Kyiv asked to "stop consideration of cases concerning Ukraine." In its decision, the ECtHR applied even wider relaxations and suspended the proceedings in "cases against Ukraine" and not "regarding Ukraine".

This meant studying documents, evidence, etc. in the case "Ukraine v. Russia", in particular, the ruling on the admissibility of the case against the Kremlin regarding violations in the occupied Donbas, could continue.
