The government terminated the agreement between Ukraine and Russia on cooperation in the field of atomic energy. The decision was made on August 27 against the background of Russian aggression and the tense situation at the ZNPP. This was announced by the permanent representative of the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.

The agreement was effective from January 14, 1993. It involved the joint design, construction and operation of nuclear power plants, nuclear power plant safety research, storage and processing of spent nuclear fuel.

"The Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of Russia on scientific, technical and economic cooperation in the field of atomic energy has been terminated," Melnychuk said.
