The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine proposed a number of changes to the legislation regarding the registration of women in the military - Deputy Minister of Defense

Ukraine does not need additional recruitment of women for military registration, but the army still needs specialists, Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Malyar said on Facebook.

"The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine worked out the issue of applying the list of specialties and/or professions related to the relevant military accounting specialties, after obtaining which women enter military registration, and analyzed the current need for the mobilization of women. The experience of deploying all military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations into full-time wartime staffs shows that today there is no urgent need in the state to significantly increase the number of women on the military register," said Malyar.

At the same time, she noted, the Armed Forces still have a need for specialists in the fields of medicine, radio engineering, and food technology. In this regard, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine proposed to make a number of changes to the relevant legislative and normative acts regulating the registration of women in the military register.

Thus, the General Staff proposes to shorten the list of specialties subject to military registration, to provide for the voluntary registration of women who have obtained specialties from the revised list, and to determine that the organization of registration of women for military registration in Ukraine will begin no earlier than a month after the end of the special period .

"The obligation to put women on military registration who have certain military registration specialties is a norm of the law. The Ministry of Defense and the General Staff cannot change the law. ... If this norm is changed, the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff will implement it. We have personally prepared proposals regarding these changes in the direction of voluntariness and our version of the draft law is currently being agreed upon by other ministries - this is the order. But the parliament will make the decision," she stressed.
