The Black Sea is a zone of strategic interest for NATO - President of Rumania

The Black Sea is an area of strategic interest to NATO for Euro-Atlantic security.

The President of Rumania Klaus Johanness declared, RFI reported.

"We are on the shores of the Black Sea, just a few hundred kilometers away from the unjust and brutal war launched by Russia against Ukraine, a military conflict that many did not consider possible in Europe in our time. Today the Black Sea is an area of strategic interest for Euro-Atlantic security, which was clearly stated by us and our allies in the NATO Strategic Concept at the Madrid Summit," he said.

According to the Rumanian president, not only the unprecedented visibility of the entire region, but also the presence of over 5 thousand allied troops in Rumania testifies to this.

Earlier it was reported that the countries of Western Europe, which are members of NATO, are asking the alliance to strengthen their defense.
