Japan Warns of Growing Threat from Russia and China

Japan's Defense Ministry warns of a growing military threat from Russia and is also worried about Chinese pressure on Taiwan.

This was reported by The Guardian.

Japan showed the annual security report, in which much attention was paid to the war in Ukraine. Tokyo believes that Russia's military invasion of Ukraine could set a bad example for China and send a signal that "trying to change the status quo by force is acceptable."

Japan notes that Russia is increasingly relying on its nuclear capabilities as a deterrent. In turn, this worries the Japanese authorities, because Russian nuclear submarines regularly operate near its territory.

Also, Japan's Defense Ministry has paid much attention to Taiwan, since the island has been actively working to strengthen its self-defense efforts since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

Recall that the U.S. approved the sale of military equipment to Taiwan for $108 million. In turn, China demanded that the White House cancel the deal and sever military ties.

Also, CIA chief Will Burns said that Russia's war against Ukraine could prompt China to attack Taiwan.
