The meeting between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov and his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan ended in Tbilisi. This is the first meeting between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, writes Georgia Online.
The talks were held at the Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilya Darchiashvili expressed his confidence that the talks in Georgia would strengthen peace and stability in the region.
"Tbilisi has always been a place where very important decisions were made," Darchiashvili said.
"Today I can't say anything about the continuation of the format, the main thing is that today we managed to start a joint dialogue between the Foreign Ministers of neighboring countries and colleagues, as before, it will certainly contribute to the continuation of this process," the Georgian Foreign Minister said.
Darciashvili recalled that Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced the Initiative for a peaceful neighborhood in the South Caucasus from the rostrum of the UN in 2021 and suggested the brotherly states to create a mediation platform in Tbilisi.
According to the minister, today is "a logical continuation of that process when our neighbors came to Georgia and started a dialogue on important issues they have in bilateral relations."
"I am very proud that Tbilisi is the venue for the meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan. Rest assured that our joint efforts to establish peace and stability in the region will yield results," Ilya Darchiashvili wrote on Twitter.
