France donates mobile laboratory for rapid DNA analysis to Ukraine

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on the transfer to Ukraine of a mobile laboratory for the rapid analysis of DNA in the investigation of war crimes by the Russian Federation.

The ministry said in a statement.

"On July 14, 2022, the MFA Crisis and Support Center provided the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine with a new mobile laboratory for rapid DNA analysis and examination. This laboratory, funded by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, is a projected device with no analogues in the world of genetics. It is a system that allows rapid genetic analysis of large numbers of biological samples. It was developed by the French company TRACIP (Deveryware group) together with IRCGN, an expert in identifying victims (DNA sampling and processing) and collecting evidence," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It is noted that as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, France will "continue to support the fight against impunity" in Ukraine.

French media noted that a laboratory similar to the one donated to Ukraine was used during the 2015 Germanwings plane crash in the French Alps and in the context of the July 14, 2016, terrorist attack in Nice, in the south of France.

The announcement of the mobile lab donation was made by President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Ukraine in June.
