Estonian prime minister officially announced her resignation to form a new government

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas officially informed the government about her decision to resign on her own initiative.

ERR writes about it.

Together with the Prime Minister, the entire government will resign. The Prime Minister traditionally informs the President and Parliament of the decision to resign.

Kallas asked the speaker of the Riigikogu to call an emergency meeting on July 15 at which she would make a political statement and present a new coalition agreement with the Isamaa and Social Democrats.

The Reform Party, Fatherland Party (Isamaa), and Social Democratic Party of Estonia reached an agreement to form a governing coalition on July 8.

Representatives of the three parties said the goal of the new coalition was to increase Estonian security, give people a sense of security for the future amid a general rise in prices, and switch to Estonian-language education.

Kallas suggested that President Alar Karis recall all seven ministers from the Center Party and initiated more than a month of negotiations for a new coalition.

According to her, the "last straw" was the fact that the coalition partners did not support the previously agreed project on translating primary education into Estonian in the parliament.
