A helicopter involved in extinguishing a forest fire crashed in the Aegean Sea near the Greek island of Samos.

The Mi-8 helicopter took off from the island of Samos at 16:39 on July 13. The accident happened at 17:55, when the helicopter was gaining sea water. According to preliminary data, the cause of the crash was strong wind.
There were four people on board: two Moldovan citizens, a Romanian citizen and a Greek citizen.
On Wednesday night, Greek authorities said that two people on board were killed: the pilot, a Romanian citizen, and a Greek citizen.
One of the Moldovan citizens was rescued at sea shortly after the accident, he was in the water for 35 minutes. The second was found a few hours later, the sea currents carried him to the shore of a small island.
On Wednesday, 27 firefighters, four planes to dump water and three helicopters were sent to fight the fire on Samos.
