Czech and German governments agree on solidarity measures in case of gas shortages

German Economy Minister Robert Habek and Czech Industry Minister Josef Sikela plan to conclude a joint agreement "on gas solidarity" between the countries amid a rather difficult situation with energy supplies and the reduction of gas supplies from Russia. This was reported by Reuters.

As noted, on Monday, the largest pipeline Nord Stream-1, which transports Russian gas to Germany, stopped service, it is expected that the flow will be completely stopped on July 21 from 7:00. The government says the shutdown is prompted by the aggressive war in Ukraine.

"We are going to sign an agreement on solidarity measures to ensure the security of gas supply between our countries by the beginning of the upcoming winter season," the declaration said.

The sides noted that the Nord Stream 1 pipeline's gas flow may not recover after the completion of the annual scheduled inspection, which runs until July 21. "We hope for the best and prepare for the worst," the German vice chancellor said. In that context, Habek warned that the winter season was going to be difficult and that we should start preparing for it right away.

The supply of Nord Stream gas pipeline is stopped for ten days from July 11 to 21, previously announced in the company-appropriator of the project Nord Stream AG. The supply of gas to Nord Stream has been stopped since 7:00 Moscow time.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine express deep disappointment over the decision of the Canadian government to issue a permit for the return of the Nord Stream 1 turbines repaired by Siemens Canada to Germany.
