During her visit to Sydney, US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm plans to discuss with her colleagues from Australia, India and Japan the possibility of their participation in the initiative aimed at limiting the cost of oil exported by Russia.
"We want to propose the possibility of coming together in a buying group that will have more market power to be able to lower prices and, therefore, lower the cost of Russian oil," Granholm told Bloomberg on Monday.
As reported, G7 countries are discussing measures that would introduce a ceiling on prices for exported Russian oil, in order to limit its income from supplies to the world market. In particular, an option is being considered in which European insurers would insure tankers with Russian oil only if it is sold at a price below a set level.
According to Bloomberg's sources, the goal of the buying group is a price of $40-60 per barrel.
During his visit to Sydney, Granholm also plans to discuss cooperation in the supply of raw materials for green energy technologies.
