The Australian government has announced the cancellation of duties on imports from Ukraine.
This was stated in a statement from the Australian Ministry of Tourism.
The measure takes effect today and follows similar actions by our international partners such as the European Union and the United Kingdom.
"The removal of tariffs on imports to Australia from Ukraine is a key part of the Australian government's ongoing efforts to further deepen our bilateral trade and investment relationship," the statement said.
In 2021, Ukrainian imports to Australia totaled about $122 million. The measure calls for tariffs to be reduced from 5% to zero for 12 months on a number of goods produced in Ukraine.
Excise duties, such as those applied to fuel, alcohol and tobacco products, will remain in place.
"Australia condemns Russia's unilateral, illegal and immoral aggression against the people of Ukraine. This measure demonstrates our commitment to support Ukraine's economy as it deals with the ongoing devastating effects of Russia's invasion," the statement said.
As a reminder, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albaniz announced during his visit to Kyiv that he would provide Ukraine with an additional $100 million in military and technical assistance.
