Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev, who arrived in the Kaliningrad region at a meeting on national security, threatened Lithuania because of the recent ban on the transit of Russian goods.

"We will soon respond to the decision of Vilnius to announce a transport blockade of the Kaliningrad region, it will seriously affect the people of Lithuania," he said.

Earlier, the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, said that the response to Lithuania's decision "is quite obvious and will be extremely painful.

As previously reported, from June 18, railroad of Lithuania stopped transit of a number of Russian goods to Kaliningrad. We are talking about 50% of the cargoes subject to the EU sanctions.

The actions of the Lithuanian side are considered "openly hostile" and demanded immediate lifting of transit blocking. The Foreign Ministry said that otherwise "Russia reserves the right to act to protect its national interests.
