Joachim Herrmann, head of the Confederation of German Interior Ministers and head of the Bavarian Interior Ministry, has criticized the statement of Ukrainian Ambassador Andriy Melnik that Ukrainian refugees are not welcome in Germany. Herrmann said this in an interview with the newspaper NOZ.
"This insolence and total inconsistency with reality is just wrong... This is an insult to thousands of German families who were and still are willing to accept and accompany refugees into their homes," the Bavarian interior minister claimed.
He also added that most of the Ukrainian women he spoke with were amazed at how well they were received.
At the same time, when asked about the decreasing number of Ukrainians in Germany, Joachim Herman suggested that many refugees left Ukraine in panic, wanting to return home as soon as possible.
Now that the security situation allows it, they return to Ukraine, the head of the Bavarian Interior Ministry believes.
Earlier, Ukraine's ambassador to Germany Andrei Melnik said that the country was not too hospitable to Ukrainian refugees. He believes that Germany should wonder why Ukrainians "have no desire to stay here.
