The response of the European Union to Ukraine's application for accession will show whether the European project has any future at all. President Volodymyr Zelensky said this at a briefing with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
"Now, of course, is a decisive time not only for Ukraine, but also for the European Union and the entire European continent. This is the time when the future of the united Europe will be decided and if there will be this future at all," he noted.
In his opinion, Russia intends to destroy European unity and weaken Europe. It is she who is the main target, and the war in Ukraine is only the first stage of Russian aggression.
"That is why a positive EU response to Ukraine's membership bid could be a positive answer to the question of whether the European project has a future at all," Zelensky added.
He also stressed that the European project cannot be completed without Ukraine, because it is the country that now protects Europe.
The people of Ukraine are showing incredible strength and stamina.
