The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry responded to reproaches from the leadership of the African Union on the export of food products through the Black Sea ports. Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko wrote this on Facebook.
"It is disappointing to hear that Ukraine should do something without condemning Russia and calling for it to stop its destructive war. We call on President Macky Sallah and the African Union to use their leverage on Russia to persuade it to stop its stupid fighting. millions of tons of grain stuck in seaports and avoid a food crisis in Africa and beyond," the speaker wrote.
Mykolenko recalled that Ukraine proposed a three-point plan that would allow it to unblock its seaports in order to resume grain exports: Russia should withdraw its naval forces in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, military equipment should be provided to protect Ukraine in case Russia decides to use demining and an international naval mission should be launched to patrol the export routes.
Recall that Senegalese President Macky Sallah, also acting head of the African Union, called on Ukraine to clear Odessa's ports and resume sea exports of grain. If this is not done, Africa "will face the threat of a very serious famine that could destabilize the continent.
